What are they?
This is the fifth edition of the CHKS Accreditation Programme Standards for Hospice Services. It builds on the previous CHKS standards for Hospice Services and incorporates current national and professional guidance, bringing together standards of best practice and providing a framework for organisations to work towards and to subsequently gain external recognition for this achievement.
In this edition we have enhanced the standards to reflect the emerging models of hospices; which are forward thinking, integrated and commercially aware - while retaining the highest quality of care for individuals and their families.
Changes and developments in quality assurance and improvement programmes nationally and internationally have also influenced changes to the standards, and significantly, these standards are mapped to the CQC Key Lines of Enquiry by domain.
These latest standards address our main development concerns around patient safety, in particular the ageing population and prevalence of dementia, patients’ and families' experience of care, professional competence, clinical governance, leadership and teamwork.
What's new?
Following client feedback we have incorporated a number of new standards in our latest programme: quality account, recycling, patient outcome tools, NHS Information governance toolkit, counter terrorism strategy toolkit, protection of vulnerable adults, social support and accessing allied healthcare services e.g. dentists, opticians, hearing specialists.
There are new standards on training and staff development, retailing and fundraising, blood transfusion, dementia care, rehabilitation and social support, portering and management of the deceased.
